Activities for Children

The Grand Rapids Friends Meeting has weekly First Day School Classes for children every Sunday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Children are encouraged to be creative while learning Quaker values and history through stories and related activities. Although the Friends Meeting is not always centered around biblical teachings, many of the lessons taught incorporate the teachings of Jesus and other spiritual leaders throughout our history.

Children are also involved with service projects through the American Friends Service Committee. Whether it's putting hygiene kits together for families in war torn Somalia or helping homeless families in our local community, children are encouraged to "see that of God in everyone," and to help those less fortunate then themselves anyway they can.

Teenagers are also welcome to attend First Day School however, when there are enough teens, a Junior Meeting is formed and topics more relevant to their age are discussed. Teenagers are also encouraged to spend more time sitting in the silence at this time.
