Grand Rapids Friends Meeting
Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)
The Grand Rapids Friends Meeting (sometimes known to outsiders as the Grand Rapids Quakers) is an "unprogrammed" Quaker group affiliated with Friends General Conference, within the greater worldwide Religious Society of Friends.
As an autonomous local "meeting" we are also associated with the Michigan-wide Green Pastures Quarterly Meeting and a larger regional entity called the Lake Erie Yearly Meeting (mostly Michigan and Ohio groups).
We worship in silence, waiting upon the Spirit to speak to us both individually and in community. Occasionally, we speak out of the silence as we have leadings to share with one another. But beyond the silence of our worship, we are a very lively and talkative group, enjoying each other's fellowship and companionship in service. We enjoy our singing time and potlucks.
We have no paid clergy, but rather are all ministers to one another and to everyone we encounter in our daily lives. We have no fixed creeds, believing instead in the continuous revelation and direct experience of God as we journey through life seeking truth through simplicity, integrity, peace, justice and community.
More detailed descriptions of our various committees and activities can be found on other pages on this website. Click on "History of G.R. Friends" for a more detailed history or "Testimonies" for more about how we strive to live our beliefs.
